Knomad’s story began decades ago when founder Miguel Jimenez first dreamed of creating a comfortable and lively lounge in his neighborhood. Being a world traveler and appreciating the many cultures he’s visited; Miguel dreamed of a place where all travellers, from every corner of the globe, could feel welcome. After months of acquiring permissions and permits; work finally began on the space that would become Knomad. It’s hard to believe this wonderful little oasis, tucked in the heart of the Mueller-Windsor Park neighborhood, started as a dreary office space in a little shopping strip. It took a lot of sweat and persistence by Miguel and his partners to get Knomad up and running.
Their hard work paid off. Just one year after opening, Knomad claimed The Austin Chronicle’s ‘BEST Neighborhood Bar’ Award; a distinction some bars wait years to attain. The next year, Knomad won again; tying with Rio Rita for Best Bar Staff. Knomad continues to provide our customers with a refreshing break from the rat race.
Wherever you’re from, Knomad is a place for all those weary travellers out there to come in and take a load off. From our friendly bartenders, to our Signature Knomad Bloody Mary, or the variety of live music acts playing weekly; Knomad is the perfect spot to come, relax and avoid the hassle of Downtown.

What’s with the ‘K’?
The story is this:
It was a particularly eventful evening, a group of tourists stumbled into the bar looking for a place to unwind after a long day of sightseeing. They were excited to try the local brews and soak in the vibrant atmosphere on Nomad’s amazing patio. As the night progressed, the bar filled with laughter and the clinking of glasses.
However, trouble brewed when a local prankster decided to play a mischievous joke. Armed with a roll of painter’s tape and 2 pool noodles, they stealthily added a silent ‘K’ to the bar’s sign, turning “Nomad” into “Knomad.” The alteration went unnoticed until the next day when Miguel arrived to find puzzled customers staring at the poorly altered signage.
Confusion ensued as patrons wondered if they had stumbled into the wrong place. Miguel, ever the improviser, decided to embrace the unexpected change. He declared “Knomad” the new official name of the bar, claiming it symbolized their adventurous spirit and willingness to adapt.
The true story is: legalities.
